When I was in college making money was a bit of a challenge. One of the rules for freshman college students at the University I attended was that freshmen students could not have a car on campus. Right away, getting a job to make money was a challenge. There were some jobs on campus and a few that were close by, but the options were not many and they were mediocre to say the least. If I wanted to earn some money by getting a job my options were:
- Campus Maintenance
- Dining Commons Jobs
- McDonald’s
- Wendy’s
- Burger King
- Other Various Restaurants
I’d never worked in a restaurant and wasn’t really crazy about the idea, I ended up getting a job in the dormitory dining commons. Basically I helped in the kitchen. This job was more about necessity at the time as I didn’t have any other ideas to make money…
Today, I think there are a lot of extra money ideas for college students, most of which aren’t “traditional jobs”. My advice to any college student looking for extra money ideas…. Don’t get a job.
Ways to make money for college students
Jobs suck for obvious reasons especially if your a college student. Scheduling for one, can be a nightmare. Look for ways to make money that let you set your own work schedule. Here are some of the more common ideas to make extra money:
- Do Lawn and Yard Work
- Tutoring
- House Repair and Painting
- Automobile Detailing
- Computer Training
These extra money ideas are great for college students because you can schedule them around your class schedule, people are willing to pay a decent wage (compared to a job) and you can meet people and make contacts that can help later in life.
I make extra money online from home by creating websites that make money. I really like earning income this way as it is one of the more passive ways to create an extra income and I can do it from anywhere that the Internet is available. It takes a while to get started making a significant income, but once you get things going its a hard way of earning money to beat.
