I live in northern Michigan a little before it gets quite rural and making extra money takes on a twist up here as the economy and consumer trends change. People in rural areas are quite resourceful as it is and they apply this resourcefulness to bringing money into the household as well. I wanted to share a couple extra money ideas for stay at home moms as there are plenty of them in this area and all around the world.
The attraction of staying at home and being with/raising a family is tremendous for mothers of all ages who have families in varying stages of development. The Internet offers many ways to earn extra money and I write about them almost exclusively here and on a couple other popular blogs. There are also a lot of ways that seem more accessible to many stay at home moms that don’t involve the Internet or don’t have to involve the Internet at the outset.
Not everyone is savy online and the idea of making money on the Internet is just to abstract and foreign for some. Here are a couple great extra money ideas for stay at home moms that don’t require the Internet or even a computer for that matter.
Make Extra Money Buying and Selling
One definition of entrepreneurial is to move something from a place of low value to a place of high value and this principle is at play when you look to make money buying and selling. This is a great extra money idea for stay at home moms for many reasons, one of the top being you can control your hours almost completely. There are craft shows, farm markets, and depending on where you live you can even set up shop in your front yard and earn a good deal of extra cash.
Buying and selling is a relatively low risk venture that doesn’t require a lot of start up cash and this also makes it appealing. There are many items or niches to choose from that will generate extra money here are a few:
- Fresh Produce
- Handmade Crafts
- Miscellaneous Garage sale items
- Dogs, Cats and other Pets
- Gift Baskets and Gift Oriented Items
- Baby Items
These are just a few of the items you could sell to make extra money as a stay at home mom and you can take you children right along with you if you wish. The market type environments where I live are great for kids and its a great way to teach them that you can always produce an income if your willing to work.
