Are people actually making money with home based business opportunities?

Making money with a home based business is the topic of this post.  This is obviously a huge topic as home based businesses reach across thousands of industries and involve hundreds of various business models.  The article will focus on making money with home based business opportunities that are more turnkey than, say making unique crafts and selling them online.  There are several legitimate money making business opportunities available and they cover a wide span of different products and services.

To keep things on target I’ll be writing about the general steps to making money with home businesses that require you to play the role of marketer.  Most any business idea that makes money will require marketing, but turnkey type business models, also referred to as home business systems, often times do all the logistical heavy lifting for you and narrow your contribution to marketing alone… Along with you being a point of contact.

Before we get to far along I’d like to qualify the term “turnkey” I don’t like being misleading and I think the term “turnkey business” is misleading especially to first time entrepreneurs.  Good money making home based business ideas are no more turnkey than a Subway franchise or a Fast Eddies Oil Change….. Get my drift?

Buying a Subway franchise won’t put any money in your bank account, actually it will drain around 75k to start and the IF you are successful the tend to net somewhere in the 70k per year range (income varies) My point here is that in order to be profitable, in order to make money with any business, you have to have a few things down pat.

People start turnkey business opportunities for a variety of reasons some of the main ones are:

• Create a significant income (100k and up)
• Increase time flexibility and free time
• Build a profitable business with the help of others
• Positive association
• Higher profit margins
• Passive income streams
• They can usually be started part time
• They have low start up cost compare to ANY other business model
• They offer an excellent opportunity to learn

 

I’m sure you’ve read list like this on lead generation pages, the thing is, many of the top tier business opportunity DO offer a real opportunity to create these results hands down.  These results are possible with the Internet and ONLY if or when you OWN your marketing machine.  Everyone I know who makes money with a home business opportunities owns their own marketing machine. And NO not everyone earns a significant income with home based business opportunities. In fact the general break down I have found through my own research says that a little less than 10% of the entrepreneurs take in more than 100k in gross revenue with their home based business. And that is BEFORE expenses! Shipes!

So what do folks do wrong?  You can learn more about successful money making ideas by doing some research.

I have a small network or small business websites that earn money every month in a very passive manner… BUT they didn’t always do that. Until I could find a way to generate traffic to these websites (a key ingredient to making money) I never made a dime…. I had to OWN the marketing machine.

Solid turnkey business opportunities often times take care of things like:

• Product Creation
• Product Delivery
• Customer Service
• Product/Service Innovation
• Overall Company Growth

 

Where you come in as the home business or business opportunity owner is basically as the marketer.  Referral type marketing is a huge money maker online.  Affiliate relationships account for a large percentage of the wealth created on the Internet today, this is the basic function you will serve as a turnkey home business owner. Your not a marketer? Well based on what I’ve learned over the last 3 or so years, neither were these other folks who are actually making money with home based business and web based income models.

Entrepreneurs who make money with turnkey business opportunities are good at these things:

• They own their marketing machine
• They guide people through a marketing system that explains products/services
• They constantly improve their marketing machine and increase their ROI

 

Some entrepreneurs, depending on their business model, make good money by helping others establish their marketing machine and build their business.  Many affiliate programs offer two tier compensation where not only are you paid for products you refer yourself but also when others refer products as well.

If there is a key to making money from home with a home based opportunity is has to creating your own marketing machine that works. 

Why is Marketing So Important to Making Money in a Business Opportunity?

I read a statistic the other day that said over 60k people started a home based business last month in one form or another, I know statistics say a lot, but the point is that a lot of people are looking for profitable businesses to start that can be operated from home and the only way to put your income opportunity in front of them is through marketing.

Making money with a home business is possible on the Internet specifically because of the marketing opportunity the Internet represents.

For the first time in history you can market an idea all across the nation or even the world for very little or even no money….That’s a big deal and it has created an opportunity that simply did not exist only a few short years ago.

1. Find an opportunity that offers a product or service you see value in and are genuinely interested in.
2. Seek out someone who can explain the business in a non biased manner.
3. Determine whether the business has the potential to meet your personal goals.
4. When you find an opportunity that seems to be a fit determine how you will build a marketing machine.
5. Work with people who are doing or have done what your interested in accomplishing.
6. Continue to build your marketing machine and improve you skill set to achieve success.
7. Help others (if your model rewards this) in building their business.

 

It seems to me that making money with a home based business opportunity is more about proper marketing than anything else.  Many times the reason people join, start, or affiliate with a business opportunity is to make money and create more free time.  The products or services are almost after thoughts in many business opportunities and you should watch out for this.  In my experience the products or services you choose to associate with will help you through difficult times… And you may experience some of those, most businesses do.

I know it seems juvenile but simply joining or starting your own business is not what makes money.  If that is all that were required to make money everyone would do it right?  And it always seems doing the thing everyone does really doesn’t offer much….
