I get emails and blog comments every week asking ” What is the best way to make money online in 2011 ” and it’s a tough question to answer. I’ve learned that this question usually comes from people who are relatively new to making money on the Internet so I often answer with a smart way to get started in creating an online business.
There are thousands, maybe millions of ways to create income on the Internet, not all are equal and they each have their own challenges. There is a great post on a site I follow called ” Step by Step Way to Make Money Online ” I suggest you give that a read. It talks about what it really takes to make money using the Internet and also offers a simple step by step approach that a beginner can follow.
In all honesty most of the successful money making ideas or websites, or businesses… use a combination of about three revenue streams. Most business models incorporate:
- Affiliate Marketing
- Passive Advertising
- Paid Advertising
This isn’t to say there arent many more great ways to make money online in 2011, but most of the other strategies incorporate these three as well. There are many, more advanced, ways of earning income some of these include:
- Membership sites with recurring revenue.
- Web design and online consulting.
- Search Engine Optimisation Services.
- Internet Marketing Services.
While these ideas are profitable and solid bets to create a successful money making business, they really aren’t for a beginner. Offering local web services to your community is definitely a smart business to start, provided you know what your doing or know how to outsource, but if your just getting started, not the best business to start.
So What’s the Best Way to Make Money Online in 2011?
Well, I would recommend starting in a way that allows you to learn the basics of online business. Start a website or blog and share information or advice you think would be useful or that you could see people actually paying for. Its seems the top sites in just about any niche make money so choose something your passionate and committed enough to to become one of the best.. Simple right?
The other crucial element to having success at earning money on the Internet is to keep going. Don’t quit. This alone will separate you from over 95% of folks who try to develop a income using an Internet business idea.

I have been working as a Police Officer for 12 years, and I am looking to see if starting a Blog based on what I see and think as I finish my shift would generate enough interest to make money on my posts. I would love to start writing on a Blog for several reasons. First, maybe to be able to put into words all of the experiences I have had throughout the years, and secondly, and perhaps most importantly, I would love to make enough money some day to not have to work in this field anymore. Please let me know some of your thoughts… sorry if I was too vague. Ed.

First off I like your idea. And it’s important to understand that just because I like the idea doesn’t mean it will make any money. Your idea
implented would’t make squat using the methods I myself use. BUT that doesn’t mean you could find and use other ways. Is there a “hub” for police officers to share their experiences? At the end of the day you’ll make money when you can attract a targeted audience. If you started a blog that was visited and participated in by other police officers you would make money. You would also be building a resource over time. I like the idea. I use adsense and other ad networks which require that what I blog about to have certain level of “commercial value”…. your audience would be sought out for sure.
